I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in August, 2005, shortly after graduating from University. After experiencing two emergency operations to basically save my life, I believe the worst is out of the way, but the battle will remain as time goes on.
My lifestyle has altered considerably, and I find it a huge struggle to make it out of the house, or even the bed, some of the mornings. On top of the usual symptoms, motivation and having to know where the nearest toilet is are mental issues that are brought about by living with an Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and make simple, everyday tasks all the more challenging.
My aim, though, is to make a difference. As well as articles, I write poetry, using my words to raise awareness, provide guidance and depict my own struggle. Hopefully, through my use of words, patients and medical staff will then be able to tackle this incurable disease head-on, for a better understanding.
