4. Apathy
Apathy first gained respect and fame for his freestyle ability on the underground scene. Since then, his wicked sense of humour has been particularly evident on his mix-tapes, where his aggressive ego raps about his physical relationships with women. On 'Womanizer', he spits:
"People think that I'm an asshole
Why's that?
Cause my aim is to mack an innocent dame
and have her givin me brain
before she can say
'I don't wanna play games.'
but to me the back of all girls heads look the same."
After attracting interest, he later signed with a major record label and dropped his long awaited full length debut LP Eastern Philosophy in 2006, which is an exhibition of his rap mastery. Here, he goes beyond the improvisational form of rapping and showcases his conceptual storytelling, addressing a variety of subjects, such as: employment, narcotics, and even the weather.
3. 7L & Esoteric
Combine 7L's boom-bap production with one of the illest flows to ever grace a microphone (yeah, I said it) and you have definitive, raw Hip-Hop from one of music's most innovative collaborations. Lyrically and musically, 7LES have the ability to fulfil the audience's craving for good quality, consistent Hip-Hop that pulls no punches. Boston has never been so strong.
2. Immortal Technique
If you want reality then look no further. Tech's research into a number of political issues is evident on classics such as 'Peruvian Cocaine' and 'The 4th Branch', and the knowledge is delivered in such an unapologetic manner that it is like a brick to the face of every listener. Focusing on the various inequalities, such as poverty, racism, and religion, this emcee is a must listen for anyone concerned with the world's social well-being. Here is revolution.
1. Jedi Mind Tricks
JMT has been active in the Hip-Hop community for twelve years and continues to grow stronger by every record. At the time of writing this, it has sold 250,000 albums in the United States and 300,000 albums worldwide, all of which were released independently. Admittedly, the group (consisting of producer Stoupe, and emcees Jus Allah and Vinnie Paz) is not for the easily offended, but its music is original and captivating to the hardcore Hip-Hop fan. Truly thought provoking and evocative, JMT is as aggressive as they come.
