Barnsley went into this West Yorkshire derby as the usual underdogs despite Leeds United being one of the newly promoted teams in the Npower Championship at the start of the season.
It may have come at no surprise then when Jonny Howson smashed the ball home from Neil Kilkenny's corner and put Simon Grayson's men in front with only 3 minutes gone.
What followed, though, surely no one could've predicted, as The Reds fought back from a goal down to annihilate their Yorkshire rivals in front of 20,000 plus supporters at Oakwell stadium.
The equaliser was a result of some determined work from Barnsley winger Adam Hammill, who managed to ride a couple of tackles from Leeds skipper Richard Naylor and pull the ball back to Garry O'Connor, who slotted the ball home from the edge of the box for a debut goal.
The two goals were the only real highlights of a scrappy first half; the match really got going after the interval.
Hammill was at the centre of things again down the left, and somehow managed to squirm a cross past the Leeds United defenders and goalkeeper Shane Higgs to provide an easy tap-in for Jim O'Brien to put Barnsley 2-1 up in the 49th minute.
From thereon, the floodgates opened on Leeds. Diego Arismendi, on loan from Stoke, smashed the ball in magnificently from an acute angle after a dreadful error from the Leeds keeper; defender Neill Collins then inadvertently headed into his own net; and Adam Hammill capped a superb man-of-the-match performance by grabbing a fifth Barnsley goal from the edge of the opposition penalty area after teasing three defenders with some fancy footwork.
The 6,732 Leeds fans never stopped singing throughout, ands substitute David Somma managed to blast home a consolation goal for the visitors in the 86th minute.
In the end, though, it was the home fans' chants of "It's just like watching Brazil!", which were reminiscent of the team's days in the Premiership, that echoed throughout the rest of the night and topped off a well-deserved victory for Mark Robins' side.
