'Bangor City (1) Vs. Aberystwyth Town (0) Welsh Premier League, 26/1/08'

A single strike was the determining factor in Bangor City gaining all three points on a blustery windy day on the Northern coast.

Chris Seargeant’s well executed free-kick from twenty yards beat David Jones to his bottom right-hand post with just nine minutes gone.

Aber, however, were not content in giving up the points so easily and pegged City back for a majority of the game.

Rob Evans was particularly lively going forward and came close mid-way through the second half. His left-footed shot went just over the crossbar, following a mazy dribble into the penalty area.

Tiago De Silva also tested the City goalkeeper with a header shortly after his introduction on seventy-five minutes, which forced an excellent reaction-save.

City should count themselves lucky that Town just lacked that finishing touch to bring the scores level.

Aber, however, were rather fortunate themselves at the other end. Ashley Scott really should have doubled Bangor’s lead, and Lee Webber hit the upright with a powerful header after excellent counter-attacking play.

With neither team able to put their chances away, Seargeant’s ninth minute strike remained the deciding factor of the game.

The two teams meet again in the Welsh Cup Fourth Round on Saturday, with Town hoping to take revenge for City’s spoils.
