20. Trevalyan (006) vs James Bond (007)
-- Goldeneye
In easily my favourite Bond film, Trevalyan (Sean Bean) does battle with 007 (Pierce Brosnon), with both men having personal scores to settle. You can definitely feel the tension here.
19. Tyler Durden vs Narrator
-- Fight Club
I was always confused to how a person with a split personality was able to pull himself along the floor by grabbing his own hair. Anyways, the final scene involving the film's unnamed protagonist (Edward Norton) brutally kicks the crap out of "himself" is still pretty damn awesome.
18. Daniel LaRusso vs Johnny Lawrence
-- The Karate Kid
Daniel (Ralph Macchio), barely able to stand, takes it to Johnny with the famous crane kick and manages to win the All Valley Karate Championship and even gain the respect of his opponent. Of course, all the credit should go to his mentor Mr Miyagi for putting him up to it. What a legend.
17. Maximus Decimus Meridius vs Commodus -- Gladiator
Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and he will have his vengeance. The so-called "slave" Maximus (Russell Crowe) is trained with formidable combat skills, which lead to his rise in popularity amongst Rome's blood-thirsty audience. So by the time the eventual overhaul of the ruthless emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) happens, it all seems completely justified.
16. Frank Leone vs Gateway Prison Guards
-- Lock Up
Prisoner Leone (Sylvester Stallone) doesn't take kindly to strangers in wheelchairs telling him they will rape his girlfriend on the outside. He goes berserk and attempts to escape, but is soon captured by the guards and almost gets his face burned. It's three on one but he still comes out on top; most notably for his retaliative uppercut to the family jewels of one poor fat man, with the words "Rape this!" soon following. They shouldn't have pushed him so much.
15. T-800 vs T-1000
-- Terminator 2: Judgement Day
In a short, but brilliant scene, John Connor's protector (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and killer (Robert Patrick) first meet at the Galleria. They proceed to shoot at each other and completely decimate the walls with their heavy, cyborg bodies. Bill for Cyberdyne, anyone?
